The trial began in mid June of 1978, in the opening statement one of Charles Mansons followers said that" he was a vagrent wander who would refer to himself as Jesus Christ, and he was killer who hid behind the image of a Hippie of being peace loving but was a magalomaniac. Who coupled his thirst for power with intense obsession for violent death." Manson who first appeared to the Jury had a bloody X carved into his forehead. He was able to exerpt his control of most of his follwers during the trail. It hit a high point when Manson got into an arguement with the Judge when Charles stood up and yelled to the judge that someone should cut his head off. The jury found Charles Manson, Patricia Cranwinkle, Susan Atkins and Leslie VanHooten each guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. On march 29th, 1971 all three woman recieved the death penalty, what two of them said before the penalty "you have just judged yourselves" "better lock your doors and watch your kids". In 1972 the California Supreme \court abolished the death penalty and all of those on trial recieved the death penalty. Charles in now incarserated in San Quinten Penaterary.
